God promises us many good things, not just himself – good things he has created for our use and enjoyment (1Tim. 4:1-4; 6:17). He did not create the material world merely to test us with possible idols. The world is to be used and enjoyed with thankfulness and with an awareness that every good thing God has made communicates something of God. We may be rightly motivated by it when we see him in it and through it.
